Dallas is a 6-year-old Boerboel X who was adopted as a puppy back in 2019. For years, he knew what it meant to have a home, a routine, a place where he belonged.
Then, suddenly, he was brought back.
His family is moving overseas and couldn’t take him with, and now Dallas is trying to make sense of kennel life after knowing nothing but a home for most of his life.
In the kennels, he stays tucked into a corner, even when the door is left open for him. When we take him out on a leash, he walks a few metres, lies down, and starts to shiver. He shivers not just for a moment, but for minutes on end.
Dallas does enjoy attention. You can see it in his eyes when someone stops to talk to him. However, he’s scared and overwhelmed. He’s a dog who once had everything familiar taken away, and now he’s trying to survive a place that feels so foreign to him.
