He Was Looking For His Saviour - You Won't Believe What He Found
This is JR, a three-year-old AfriJack with the most soulful eyes and a heart full of hope.
Just a few days ago, JR was wandering alone in the Nooitgedacht area, desperately looking for help. His thin body carried the weight of countless ticks and fleas, and his tired eyes told a story of a dog who had been on his own for far too long. But JR never stopped believing in kindness — and he found it.
One of our incredible Sleep-A-Thoners met JR this past Sunday, when he showed up to her house out of nowhere. Even though she already had dogs of her own, she made sure JR found safety, bringing him to Wet Nose where he could finally receive the love and care he so desperately needed.
Upon arrival, we handled JR with caution as he was aggressively scared but he soon realised we were there to help. He was then treated for Babesia, a dangerous tick-borne disease. The severity of his infestation was so bad that we even had to fumigate the car he arrived in. While he is still receiving treatment, this boy is showing us every day just how strong he is. His tail wags a little more, his smile grows a little wider, and his heart slowly learns to trust again.
At first, JR is a little nervous around new faces — after all, he’s had to survive on his own for who knows how long. Although, once he realizes you mean him no harm, he will gently ask for attention in the sweetest way possible, he sits down next to you and nudges his head towards you. His love is soft, patient, and oh-so-deserving of a second chance.
