Leah is so tired, but she’s too scared to sleep...
At the end of July 2024, a violent farm attack took place in Cullinan. An elderly man was murdered and his wife was beaten so badly that she landed in ICU. The entire community was shaken.
That night also destroyed Leah’s world…
She witnessed the people she loved being brutally attacked. She was injured herself, suffering a deep wound to her shoulder, and fled in terror. When help arrived the next day, Leah was so traumatised that she couldn’t be caught. She was found days later, terrified, alone, and in pain.
What followed was not just physical healing, but weeks and weeks of emotional rehabilitation. She was petrified, and she reacted out of pure fear. She didn’t trust hands, voices, or kindness. Even stepping out of her kennel felt impossible.
Eventually, after all the rehabilitation, Leah was adopted. For the first time since the attack, she had a home and a person of her own.
Then tragedy struck again…
Leah’s adopter passed away after battling cancer. Making this the 2nd time in just over a year that Leah’s owner has passed away.
Now at 5 years old Leah is back in our care and is completely confused. She doesn’t understand why safety keeps being taken away from her. The stress is
overwhelming. She is so afraid that she won’t even lie down to sleep. Instead, she sits, slowly nodding off, fighting the exhaustion because she doesn’t feel safe enough to fully rest.
Leah is not aggressive. She is not difficult. She is traumatised and grieving.
She needs a calm, patient home with someone who understands that love, time, and consistency are everything for her.
