She was somehow still standing...

When we first saw Kyrie standing on that gravel road in Mooiplaats, it was hard to believe she had made it this far. Her body told a story long before anyone said a word. She looked like a dog who had been surviving for far too long on far too little.

The people who called us out had already done what they could. They gave her water and some pellets while they waited for us to arrive. We brought soft food, and judging by the way she ate, it looked like she hadn’t had a proper meal in a very long time.

There was also a farm worker there who knew exactly who she belonged to and helped us get the owner’s details. After some back-and-forth conversation, we were eventually told that Kyrie would be better off in our care.

So we loaded her into the vehicle and brought her straight back to our clinic.

Kyrie is still very reserved. She watches everything carefully, unsure of her surroundings and unsure of the people trying to help her. For now, we’re taking things one day at a time. Small steps towards helping Kyrie believe that she is safe.
