This is one of the worst dog attack cases we've seen in a long time...

Just before we closed for the day, we got a call about an injured puppy near the robots by Pick n Pay in Rayton. The man who found her picked her up and brought her to us.

When Marmite arrived, we could see she had been through something terrible.

She was covered in bite wounds. Every movement looked painful, so the first thing we did was clean her wounds and make sure she wasn’t suffering by giving her pain medication. As we examined her, it became clear this was far more serious than we first hoped.

At ONLY 5 months old, Marmite needed a specialist immediately.

The scans showed just how badly she had been injured. She had an ulna and radius fracture that required a plate and seven screws. She had a tibia growth plate fracture that needed four crossed Steinman pins to repair it. She also had fractures between her wrist and toes. Those can’t be operated on, so her leg has been carefully splinted while they heal.

The heartbreaking part is that there were no signs of bruising anywhere on her body. That tells us these injuries weren’t caused by being hit by a car. Everything points to another dog being responsible, and then someone just leaving her to suffer.

Despite everything she’s endured, Marmite still wags her tail every time someone stops to say hello. She still wants to believe that people are kind.

The prognosis, once she recovers, is looking good – she will be able to live a normal life. So for the next six weeks, her world will be made up of strict rest, medication, bandage changes, and lots of love before she returns to the specialist for her follow-up.
