We just couldn't put this beautiful girl down...

Bella is a 2-year-old Boerboel who was brought to our clinic by a man who wanted to have her put down. When we asked why, he said she had a skin condition and that he did not know what to do. He claimed he had apparently been to multiple vets, but still said treatment was too expensive and that he wanted her euthanised.

As a right-to-life shelter, we would not put down a perfectly healthy 2-year-old dog. Instead, we spoke to him about what needed to be done and how her skin condition could be managed. He then left to go and think about it. Later, he decided that we could take her in. So we went out to fetch Bella and brought her back to our clinic.

When she arrived, the stress of everything had clearly caught up with her. She did not move for an hour and a half. She just stayed where she was, shut down and overwhelmed, while we sat with her and comforted her the entire time.
When we got her to move, she was treated for her skin condition – Bella was simply dealing with allergies. That was ALL!

Now, two weeks later, she is doing much better. She is happier, less stressed, and more relaxed. Her skin is also doing much better, and her real personality is starting to shine through.

Bella is not overly interested in treats, but attention is a different story. If you stop loving her, she will wave her foot at you as if to ask for more. It is one of the sweetest things about her, and such a gentle little glimpse into who she really is.

She also gets along with other dogs and has shown no aggression towards cats or farm animals. If you would like to give Bella a forever home, please contact us on 082 677 8086. If you cannot adopt, please share her story. Her person could still be out there somewhere.
